The Greatest Challenge: Risking Everything to Cross the Iga Mountains
The mountains of Iga were steep and ran rampant with bandits. Crossing this region represented Lord Ieyasu’s greatest obstacle.
However, Hattori Hanzo who served under Ieyasu, was a native of Iga. He remained grateful to Tokugawa clan as they had protected the Iga people during Nobunaga’s attack. In gratitude, about 200 Iga warriors guarded Ieyasu and his entourage, ensuring their help, Lord Ieyasu successfully completed the perilous Iga crossing.
